Brides and mothers-in-law are like Dogs and Monkeys…

This Japanese Proverb can mean chaos or being pulled in two different directions and is appropriate, as today is an Earth monkey day in a Dog month; the beginning and end of a special combination. Fire Sheep and higher goats for the water of heaven

In Chinese, the Fire Sheep is called Ding Wei and sometimes referred to as “the water of heaven”, because the Fire element is reflected as a hidden component in the Wei character. This is often taken as a source of prosperity, so now we all want one, regardless of ovine or caprine influences.

Fire represents the height of nature and is a transitional state between Yang and Yin, or growth and decay. Could that also be firing or hiring, which is more topical in this economic climate? If so, today is a good day to look for a new job as the Chinese almanac suggests hunting and “obtaining” as suitable activities. Meditation is also favourable, so you could always catch the boat on the celestial waterway, as mentioned above instead.

A Horse, a Dog, my kingdom for a Tiger...

Today's Fire horse is fabled throughout Chinese culture as being so unique and bright that it may be too much for mere mortals to handle. Consequently, people think twice about having children in these periods.

However, I prefer to think of Fire and Horse as pure; both being the same element and making a cycle or better still a “ring of fire”. This reminds me of ancient times when a crown was a symbolic ring of fire denoting enlightenment and the height of spiritual growth. Both are fire element qualities and a reason for including a royal domain in today's title.

However, the biggest purpose for referring to this Shakespearean quote was to highlight the union between this Horse day falling in a Dog month, creating a semi combination. It is completed with a Tiger, which will significantly increase the effect of the fire element in a horoscope.

Snakes in the grass on double Danger day

As today's wood element can refer to flora and fauna, it was a “no-brainer” to derive today's title for this Wood Snake day. That’s the apparent part, but what may not be so obvious is that it’s also a Danger day in both the 28 Lunar Mansions and 12 Palace cycles, hence double danger day.

This makes it a day fraught with problems and an ever present danger of accidents at work, so it is best suited for leisure. The ancient text says it is advisable to be joyful and drink wine and I’ll drink to that! The only other suggestion is of quiet meditation and thanking your ancestors for making you who you are.
