This Metal Dragon day is the first day of a second 10-day period indicating hot weather. However, as this is a Water Goat month it will probably be very humid instead of sunny. Earth Rabbit day

Wood Dog - fetch boy!

Water Rooster proclaims new beginnings!

I just saw on the news that a school has won The Stirling award for architectural excellence as it changed the behaviour of its occupants transforming them into model students. Balancing environments is something that feng shui has done for millennia and the great news is that it can be applied to existing buildings not just new ones. As the Rooster proclaims the dawn, I could not resist the urge of mentioning this today. Since the schoolteachers union are firmly behind this development, I look forward to the time when all schools will be this way and we provide a caring, nurturing environment for our future generations.

Today’s astrology means that the Rooster will be the centre of attention. It is also good for the associated signs of Snake and Ox, who share creativity. The former also has wealth or wife potential whilst the latter has friendship. Rabbit signs may be under stress today, but share power opportunities with Tigers. Today being a Water Monkey day led me to expand on the water element definition by calling it a sea monkey and try to inject some humour into an otherwise potentially stressful day. This is due to a clash with the annual qi making today unsuitable for most things, except cleaning house and seeing a doctor.

Normally Tigers would be stressed on a Monkey day but as they are supported by the annual qi, Monkeys may suffer instead. Rooster, the other metal element sign may suffer setbacks. Today being a Metal Horse day and the metal element being associated with the colours of white and gray, I have chosen to name today after a well-known UK pub. This is just as well as according to the Chinese almanac this “Close” day is suitable to brew and ferment. It is also good to fix walls and fill cracks, prepare burial clothes and set up a grave, so after redecorating, mind how you travel back from a public house.

Tiger, tiger burning bright!

As it does on this very auspicious day, being the same animal as the year is good enough but today is also the start of a new lunar cycle. Spring Cow day

Today is a Wood Ox day, as wood is associated with Spring and Cow is another word for Ox I have used poetic licence to unite both of these features. Actually, the original Spring Cow was a mystical beast ridden by Lao Zi (Tse) the father of Taoism. It is shown annually in the Chinese almanac to predict annual themes, from yin yang polarity to weather and harvest yields.

Today the almanac has this as “broken” day, usually only good for fixing or repairing things. However, today this favours illnesses and can be used to find favourable doctors and treatments.

The Ox is unfavourable as it clashes with the month branch of Goat and is known as the “month break”. Although, other signs of Dragon, Goat and Dog have power and romance. Female Pig and Rat signs also have romance, whilst Rabbit and Tiger and Monkey and Rooster signs can be lucky with money. Snake and Horse signs are full of energy and ideas; they can put these into practice tomorrow.

Golden Tamarin day?

As today is a clash with the annual qi and is unsuitable for most things except cleaning house and tidying up the garden, I thought we could at least have a good name for this Metal Monkey day. This is in keeping with modern Chinese culture who romantically call the Geng Metal stem, all types of precious metal and I must admit it does sound nicer. I think it gets a bit out of hand though when some refer to the Rat as a mouse and the Tiger as a pussycat.
